Week 86 - All is well. But alas transferred again.

Life is well. The mission is well. All things are well in Spring, Texas...
But alas, I have been informed that I will be getting transferred once more. So although Spring has been incredible, I will see where the lord needs me for these last few months of my mission.

Adios Spring Texas! I love you guys!

Vigils, Deavers, Kizerians, Rasmussens, Keelers, Johnsons, Tuck, Pouwers, Boyds, Wideman, Isom, Kendricks, Otas, Sabistons, Tua'ones, Garretts, Badonis, Williams, Ragsdales, Hardys, Barrows, Martinez, and everyone else that I missed, Thank you so much. You guys are incredible and very dear to me, and have helped teach me some of the greatest lessons during my stay in Klein Oak. Thank you so much! Your influence will be remembered by me for the rest of my life.

all I can say is..

Keep on the keeping on! This is the lord's work!

Anyhow though...

I have found an incredible testimony of the miracles that await us as we do the lord's work. He truly is in the details of our lives, if we can but be prepared to listen to the spirit. It is so amazing. Anyone who isn't or hasn't been a missionary could never understand, but it is true :)

also, a SHOUTOUT to the family back home!!!

Ya'll are the best!
Again, I apologize for not writing individually or wholly as much as I should. :) and though I have no legitimate excuse, I am sorry. Just know that I love you, and that you are on my mind always :) I have many great plans for us when I get back: ie. A family picture that isn't 20 years old... haha!

I hope you all have an incredible week! Thank you all that you do. It means more than you know to me.

I love you all.

-Elder Leavitt

Also. What an incredible conference....

The lord has truly blessed us this conference. Here was one of my favorite talks by elder Dube.

Also had the privilege of going to a filipino restaurant with a family down here that reminds me so much of Scott and Linda! They are hilarious!

She was telling me what was cooked with blood and what wasn't

Never quite decided if I liked the food or not. It was interesting.

Cheezy smiles for the win

Life is good.
The church is true.
If you don't know it, find out.
If you know already, don't forget :)

Have an incredible week. I love you

Week 82 - A Truth of Eternal Life

The mission is an incredible thing.. Over the past few month I have found such a great love for the gospel. I have found a testimony that this is the lord's work; that as I listen to the spirit I am truly doing and being what he needs me to.

I have come to an understanding of a gospel truth that I think is oftentimes far underestimated.

It is so hard when sincere prayer about something we desire very much is not answered the way we want. It is especially difficult when the Lord answers no to that which is worthy and would give us great joy and happiness. Whether it be overcoming illness or loneliness, recovery of a wayward child, coping with a handicap, or seeking continuing life for a dear one who is slipping away, it seems so reasonable and so consistent with our happiness to have a favorable answer. It is hard to understand why our exercise of deep and sincere faith from an obedient life through prayer does not bring the desired result.

But check it for a minute:

Perhaps you prayed to know if Jesus Christ is really our savior.

Or maybe you prayed for your depression to go away.

Perhaps a third scenario could be that you had a car accident and you prayed for help.

now I pose the questions of what are the possible ways that God could answer these prayers?

for the first one, He COULD send Jesus Christ himself to come and tell you. He could come tell you himself He could send an angel to tell  you... etc.

for the second one, he COULD, take your depression away. He could just make everything in you life right. Make you get an awesome job and never experience adversity again. he COULD do that.

for the third one, he COULD come down and and mend the broken bones, the cuts, the damage to the car. He COULD probably even reverse time and take back the car wreck. He COULD do that.

But, to solve the problem through any of those ways would not be accomplishing his purpose: "to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of men". The solutions already mentioned require no faith and build zero testimony. So often we forget what Alma taught us, and that is that "faith is thing which are not seen which are true". So regardless of how many times God sends an angel, or comes to us himself, that cannot build our faith. It HAS to be the other way around. Faith precedes the miracle.

However, let me now comment on what I think is the way that god more often tries to answer our prayers.

Why would god send Jesus Christ to come and tell you what is true, when another one of your spiritual brothers or sisters could just as boldly come to you and testify to you of the divinity of Jesus Christ. Would that not be an answer to your prayer? It would. And it would also give someone else an opportunity to learn and grow, as well as an opportunity for you to exercise your faith. Both of which accomplish his purpose.

Why when you prayer for happiness in exchange for the depression you feel, would god instantly provide that which you desire? Why would he make your burdens light himself, when he could just prompt one of your friends with the idea that they need to call or visit you with words of hope and encouragement. would that not answer your prayer? It would. And it would also give someone else an opportunity to learn and grow, as well as an opportunity for you to exercise your faith. Both of which accomplish his purpose.

Why, though he is completely able to if he so wish, would god choose not to come and fix the terrible car accident we have just had? Perhaps though, he could send your home teacher a prompting to go to where you are to help. Perhaps God could give dexterity, precision, and knowledge to the doctors and emergency technicians, that they may work on you to the best of their abilities. Would both of these not be an answer to a prayer for help? It would. And it would also give someone else an opportunity to learn and grow, as well as an opportunity for you to exercise your faith. Both of which accomplish his purpose.

I have full faith in the fact that oftentimes the only way that god answers others prayers, is through us; and through situations like these, we begin to understand just how important it is that we are listening to the spirit and prepared and ready to serve wherever it is that we are called.

What happens if someone prays for a witness of Christ, and we fail to listen to the prompting we are given to bear testimony? That prayer will go unanswered.

What happens if our friend prays for happiness, and we ignore the prompting to call and talk to them, or miss the prompting altogether because we are not listening? that prayer will go unanswered

What happens if we receive the prompting that someone is in trouble, and we shrug it off and do not heed the call? that prayer will go unanswered

I fully believe that the faith of the prayerful person is oftentimes not the only variable that goes in to receiving an answer to a prayer.

we MUST be ready and prepared to receive the promptings of the spirit.

I know that if we can just do that. We will change people's lives. Through us god will answer the prayers of others, and we can begin to more fully understand the purpose of god.

Eternal life is not a gift that God could give freely. It is a gift that we have to be prepared to receive; And when so done, we will be freely given it.

There are people now. today. waiting for you to be the answer to their prayers. Don't be the reason that their prayers go unanswered. Be the reason that they receive the most powerful answer in the world. That is your privilege and your duty. to be the "light of the world". Be a godsend. Each of us, because of divine potential has it within us to be that.

I testify that they are out there. People are waiting for you to light their paths.

I testify that God lives. That Jesus is our savior.

The church is true. This is the lord's work.

Have an incredible week. I love you.

Week 80 - only four more transfers :(

Just a short letter this week. I only have 4 transfers left, and I don't have time to waste writing letters! I hope everyone is doing well back home though ;)

Here is a picture with one of my favorite families from the ward: the Otas. They cook us delicious japanese food on saturdays! And it just so happens that they are good friends with the Dee Fuhirman (I have no idea how to spell that) and his family that used to live in melba. So when I told them that I was from melba they were quite excited to see that I knew them!

This week has been full of miracles. At home and here in the mission. Life is incredible when the gospel is in your life :) my only regret is that it took me this long to figure that out.

Also, the church has put together a pretty awesome series of bible videos that are great for learning and teaching. If you haven't at least watched them I encourage you to do it.

Go share the gospel! there are people waiting!

I love you guys, have a great week!

Week 79 - Lots of Pictures. A baptism, Temple week, and a really big sandwich.

Life is well. I cannot express how incredible this week has been. Between the baptism of Tuck, going to the temple, the new investigators we have found this week, and the size of the quadruple decker sandwich I watched my companion eat, I am just speechless.

Haha. no seriously though it was huge. Look:

Elder Mortimer eating a huge sandwich!

But more importantly, life is well. The mission goes well. There is no where else I would rather be then here. I know for the first time in my life that I am where god needs me to be :)

Pictures from temple week!

Super excited about the new temple video!

these are the days

The District

Baptism pictures of recent convert Charlie "Tuck" Grider.

It was my companion, Elder Mortimer's first baptism, so I was super happy for him!

Tuck is such a champ!

I was a little scared to be standing so close to a sister, so I panicked.

Sad to think I'll be back in six months. It's scary to think about.
BUT, I know the lord will take care of me.

Thank you for all that you do. I love you guys.

The church is true. It changes lives.

If you don't know it, find out.
If you already know, don't forget.

Have an incredible week! Go find the people God has for you to find this week. I know they are out there!

Week 78 - Social Media

Hey everyone, I only have a few moments, but I just wanted to share a short video that lds.org/Mormon.org have put up over the past couple months. It is incredible to see the changes that the church is making to adapt to the world around us. It is truly a testimony that this is the lords work.

God has the incredible planned for us and everyone out there, If we can but stand where he needs us to stand and do what he needs us to do.

The church is true. The gospel is incredible

If you don't know it's true, find out.
If you already know, don't forget.

The moments we feel the spirit are precious gifts from our heavenly father. I think we have to treat them as such :) otherwise we might not get anymore.

God lives. Jesus is our savior.

This much I do know.

I'll see ya'll in a few short months. 6 In fact.   :(

Thank you so much for the letters/packages. It means a lot. I love you all!

Week 77 - Miracles

It has been another incredible week. Elder Mortimer and I have seen many incredible miracles.

We took tuck to the Houston Temple this week:

And we had a most incredible experience. The spirit was so strong.

Helaman 5:30 - "And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul"

From that lesson, and the other things he has learned from the scriptures and through the spirit, as we have been teaching him, he has completely changed from the Tuck that we found a few weeks ago. He is a new man, and you can see the light in his eyes. The light of happiness. He has finally found what he has been looking for...

This sunday we asked him in Gospel Principles to say the closing prayer, and all he could utter was the simple phrase, "Dear father, thank you for finally leading me back home", before everyone in the room began to cry due to the incredible spirit that was present..

I think much of the confusion in the world comes from just simply not understanding: who we are,  who we have always been, and who we will always be.

We have always been a part of God's family. We are his children. We are brothers and sisters of God's family. If we could but better grasp that concept, I am convinced that we could be one hundred times the disciple, friend, and person that we are today...

Throughout my mission, I have received a powerful testimony of the way that God will change  hearts if we will but let him. Tuck is a perfect example of that.

In two weeks I have seen a man change from being a swearing, drinking, dark person to a spirit filled, humble hearted, Son of God.

Is there any more powerful miracle than that?

I know that there are people in the world, waiting for you to make the difference in their life. Don't get caught up and miss the opportunity to be where God needs you to be and doing what God needs you to do. Go today and share with others the most incredible message in the world.

That God is our father. The our Savior, Jesus Christ, lives. That they both love us. And that their church has been restored to the earth today.

That is my testimony.

Here are some fun pictures from the week.
Expect more soon, for the upcoming baptisms!

The district goes to old town spring

Sister Montierth and I got some wooden shoes. She's from Meridian.

Curtis and I having some good times

Old Town Spring

Mortimer and Sister King

 Good times

Pray for Tuck. Pray for me. Pray for miracles and missionary opportunities in your lives. They will bring you closer to your father in heaven than any other experience could.

Have an incredible week. I love you all

Week 76 - Miracles Abound

It has been another incredible week in Texas. Mortimer and I have been doing work!

I'll get some pictures of us up next week, we have been having an incredible time.

This week we began teaching a man named tuck, who has single-handedly changed my understanding of the gospel. He is by far the most prepared investigator I have ever taught. Which is saying A LOT.

simply said, we contacted him through the street, and within the first three minutes of teaching him he was crying. All he could say was "I've been waiting for you for a long time".

The spirit has a way of changing us;  in a way that I don't fully understand of comprehend. But it is powerful. Even incredible.

I love my mission. and I wish I had more time, dedication, and umph to write longer and more detailed letters and recounts of my adventures on the mission, but I just simply do not. have it in me.

Just know that the Gospel is true. That miracles happen.
That Jesus Christ is our savior.
That God is our father and that he loves us.

That is my simple testimony.

:D

So this P-day I did something kind of fun. We found an old first act guitar in the dumpster while we were taking out our trash, so I took it, cleaned it up, sanded it down, and painted it real nice. Next p-day I'll see if I can find some strings for it and see how it sounds!

Klein Oak and Spring Creek elders, before Elder Wilkes went home:

Have an incredible week. I love you all
